These are 2 tired old chairs that have fallen into disrepair over the years of use. The client wanted to have the wooden frames repaired to their original state and perhaps a more up to date appearance with the finish.
As you see, there are a number of things that need to happen at this stage and very careful easing of all the loose joints to open up and completely exposed the areas that need to be repaired. In this case as can be seen from the pictured above, the Mortise and Tenon joints that hold the chair together firmly have failed over time. One these joints have been exposed, work can then begin to re-establish the strength in the fixing of the joints by using wood glue and clamps as can be seen in the picture below.
Once the glue has dried and the chair has strength in its frame, the work can begin to apply processes to renew its look. The face of the framework is sanded down to a smooth finish which will allow the paint process to take place. A primer, undercoat and two layers of the finishing coat was applied in this case as you can see in the pictures below.
